Vietnam War era night rescue of AH-1J Cobra pilot Captain John W. Bowman, Jr., and First Lieutenant David L. Androskaut, after their engines flamed out from fuel starvation, forcing them to ditch their aircraft while searching for the Okinawa. A boat was launched from the nearby USS Kirk to pick them up after the officer of the day heard the helicopter's engines quit. Signed by Captain Bowman.and some of the Kirk’s crew including artist Adam Koltz who was OPS Officer 1972-74. |
