Also known affectionately by her crew as "The Perfect 10" the USS Juneau was named after the capital of Alaska. She participated in the Vietnam War, including eight trips into Vietnamese waters, earning five battle stars for its efforts. During the 1980s and 1990s, she participated in numerous deployments, including the Exxon Valdez oil spill clean up, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm and embarked Marines ensuring the security of shipments of food supplies to the people of Somalia.

Marine artist and 20 year veteran Adam Koltz has served aboard several classes of navy ships and merchant vessels. Adam's attention to detail stems from his intimate knowledge of ships and his passion for accuracy. His understanding of the interaction of ships with the natural forces of wind and water gives his images life and vitality. Adam uses pen and ink as well as watercolor, and depicts the vessel on a chart with historical or current significance.
