USS John S. McCain DDG-56 is named in honor of Admiral John S. McCain Sr., and Admiral John S. McCain Jr. This Arleigh Burke Class, Aegis-guided missile destroyer is the third commissioned warship to carry the name "John S. McCain." The 2 admirals were the grandfather and father of John S. McCain III, former naval aviator captain, a U.S. Senator representing the state of Arizona, and the Republican nominee for President of the United States in the 2008 election.
