USS Halsey (DDG-97) Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer is named after Fleet Admiral William Frederick "Bull" Halsey Jr. (1882-1959), who commanded the third fleet from the carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6) in the Pacific during World War II (1941-45).
USS Halsey is famous for serving as the "set" for the pilot of the blockbuster TV series "The Last Ship" in which the fictional vessel USS Nathan James (DDG-115) and her intrepid crew fight for America's survival in a post-apocalyptic world decimated by viral plague.
