Named after the wife of Jason (Jason and the Argonauts), the Medea was built in Scotland in 1904 of steel and furnished with imported teak and quarter-sawn oak. She has enjoyed a colorful history serving both military and pleasure pursuits, and now rests at the Maritime Museum of San Diego in California, where she is open dockside to be boarded daily by tourists.
Painted on U.S.G.S. Nautical Chart of the Firth of Clyde in Scotland, one of the largest sheltered deep water areas in the British Isles. His understanding of the interaction of ships with the natural forces of wind and water gives his images life and vitality. Adam uses pen and ink as well as watercolor, and depicts the vessel on a chart with historical or current significance.
